As a first strike, The Bush Cares Project and the University of Houston’s Veterans Collegiate Society have partnered to create and administer three educational scholarships for veterans and their families: 

• The “Leave No Veteran Behind” scholarship will provide tuition assistance to veterans who are no longer eligible for the GI Bill and cover living expenses (e.g. daycare costs, transportation, rent subsidy)
  
  
• The “Laptops for Heroes” scholarship will put a laptop in the hands of every veteran attending a college, university or technical institute.  
  
  
• The “You Served, We Served” scholarship will pay the tuition and books of spouses and children of veterans Afghanistan and Iraqi Wars,
  not entitled to Survivors' and Dependents' Education Assistance Benefit.

The Veterans Collegiate Society is a student organization at the University of Houston interested in bettering the college experience in higher education through proactive activities and advocacy of veterans’ rights on campus.  The partnership between the Bush Cares Project and the Veterans Collegiate Society is a proactive step to keep veterans engaged and provide support for them at all major colleges and universities in the Houston area.

The Bush Cares Project and the Veterans Collegiate Society are launching a fundraising campaign to provide money for the scholarships, including a benefit concert.  The proceeds from the benefit concert will fund the scholarships and create opportunities for educational outreach, vocational counseling, and family support services for college bound veterans and their families.
